Satisfactory Academic Progress

College of Osteopathic Medicine

To remain in good standing, the student may not have more than 20% No Pass grades in a Pass/No Pass system.

The first semester that a student exceeds a 20% non-pass percentage will result in the student being placed on Financial Aid Warning.  Failure to remediate the non-pass grades to bring the percentage below 20% in the subsequent semester results in the student being placed in Financial Aid Denial.

A student in Financial Aid Denial may appeal but the appeal must be accompanied by documentation from an academic official in COM outlining the student's scheduled coursework and the requirements that must be met in order to return to good standing.

College of Human Medicine

Students identified by CHM as not meeting standards will also be asked to file an appeal form with the Office of Financial Aid.  CHM notifies OFA of students who have been through the Suspension and Reinstatement process and that an academic plan is already on file.

Students who are not on the CHM report but are not making satisfactory progress are identified by OFA and asked to submit a student appeal plus documentation from an academic official in CHM supporting the student's continued attendance.

College of Veterinary Medicine

To remain in good standing, a CVM student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater, a prior semester term GPA of 2.0 or greater, and no outstanding 0.0 grades.

Students who fail to meet these standards will be placed on Financial Aid Warning for one semester of attendance.  Failure to meet the standards in the warning semester will result in a student being placed in Financial Aid Denial.

A student in Financial Aid Denial may appeal but the appeal must be accompanied by documentation from an academic official in CVM outlining the student's scheduled coursework and the requirements that must be met in order to return to good standing.

Appeal Process

Students who have faced extraordinary circumstances may appeal the denial of their financial aid.  Documentation of circumstances and support of an academic official is required.  Contact OFA for information on how to file an appeal.
