As of August 17 2022, MSU has offered

a total amount of over

in financial aid for Fall 2021 and Spring 2022!

The financial aid amounts you see in your portal are based on your current enrollment. Most new students only have six credits on their schedule until New Student Orientation (NSO), where they meet with advisors and complete their schedules. This means that your portal may currently reflect aid for a half-time student. Do not be alarmed! Once you attend NSO and you have a full-time schedule, your portal will reflect a full-time financial aid package.

If you are planning to use a PLUS loan to help with summer semester expenses, you must apply for a separate summer PLUS loan at studentaid.gov. Once you apply and are approved, it will take approximately two business days before funds are available for acceptance in your financial aid portal. Graduate students, acceptance via the financial aid portal is required to disburse your loan funds.

Students who had federal loan repayment paused during the Covid-19 national emergency should be aware that repayment will resume on September 1, 2022. Loan servicers and the Department of Education have communicated and will continue to communicate with borrowers but we are posting similar information on our website for your use.

Of primary concern is the student's contact information and confirming it is updated with the loan servicer to ensure information is received as soon as it is sent by the servicer. Second, borrowers should work with their servicer on repayment plan options, possible other loan deferments or forbearance.

Additional information and resources can be found at studentaid.gov/announcements-events/covid-19#repayment-prep

Response Times

At various points in the year, our office can experience higher than normal volumes of phone calls and emails, and potential delays may occur. We know this can be frustrating. We apologize for this inconvenience and are in the process of hiring and training additional staff, as well as working overtime to meet your needs. We are extremely grateful for your patience.

For phone calls: During these periods our wait time, on average, is 15 minutes. We limit the number of calls that are placed on hold to respect your time.

For emails: It is taking us about 1-2 days, depending on the complexity of your question, to respond. For more complex issues, it may take a week for us to respond.

While you may experience a delay or long hold time, we are still happy to help you however we can. We have gathered our TOP 12 reasons people contact us into a single list with resource links, along with additional FAQs.

Net Price Calculator

The Office of Financial Aid provides a net price calculator for prospective freshmen to help them estimate the actual "price" of MSU after subtracting any grants and scholarships for which they may be eligible.
