Phone Traffic Is Very High

Call volume to our office is at its highest during the first weeks of the school year. Our staff is working tirelessly to give every phone call, email and in-person response the attention it deserves. If you are placed on hold, your call will be answered. If the hold queue is full, try calling again later. Call volume is typically lighter between 8:00-9:00 a.m. We appreciate your patience as we work to help every Spartan with questions about their aid.

Debt Relief Announcement

On Aug. 24, 2022, President Biden announced that the US Department of Education will forgive $10,000 in student loan debt to existing borrowers who received federal loans by June 30, 2022 with incomes below $125,000 (or $250,000 for married couples), and $20,000 to those who also received Pell Grant assistance as an undergraduate. At the same time, the pause in student loan repayment and interest that began in March 2020 will be extended one last time to Dec. 31, 2022. There are also proposed regulations to simplify repayment obligations and minimize the accumulation of interest.

Additional details will follow, but you can learn more at https://studentaid.gov/debt-relief-announcement.

Our office hours are 9 AM to 4:45 PM Monday through Friday except for holidays.

Response Times

At various points in the year, our office can experience higher than normal volumes of phone calls and emails, and potential delays may occur. We know this can be frustrating. We apologize for this inconvenience and are in the process of hiring and training additional staff, as well as working overtime to meet your needs. We are extremely grateful for your patience.

For phone calls: During these periods our wait time, on average, is 15 minutes. We limit the number of calls that are placed on hold to respect your time.

For emails: It is taking us about 1-2 days, depending on the complexity of your question, to respond. For more complex issues, it may take a week for us to respond.

While you may experience a delay or long hold time, we are still happy to help you however we can. We have gathered our TOP 12 reasons people contact us into a single list with resource links, along with additional FAQs.

Net Price Calculator

The Office of Financial Aid provides a net price calculator for prospective freshmen to help them estimate the actual "price" of MSU after subtracting any grants and scholarships for which they may be eligible.
