SUBJECT: 2024-25 FAFSA Update

Dear Students and Families,

We are writing to provide an update regarding financial aid for the upcoming academic year. Since our last message, there has been little change in the delivery status of FAFSA data from the U.S. Department of Education. This delay is impacting all universities across the country.

The Department of Education stated that they plan to begin sending FAFSA data to universities sometime in March. While this nation-wide delay will impact the timing of complete financial award packages, we are working hard to expedite the process. As soon as we begin receiving the FAFSA data from the Department of Education, we will work with our financial aid software provider to load the information and generate financial aid award packages that we know you are anxiously awaiting.

The process of generating financial aid award packages does take time once we receive the data from the Department of Education. In a normal year, it would take approximately one month to ensure accurate financial award packages are ready to be loaded into the student portal. With the many changes to FAFSA formulas and updates to MSU systems and software, there could be some necessary adjustments that make this process take a little longer than usual.

We remain hopeful that MSU students and families will receive financial aid award packages by late April 2024. We will continue to keep you updated as we receive information from the Department of Education.
