Summer Withdrawal

Dropping courses during summer semester can cause student's to receive an unexpected bill, sometimes in the hundreds or thousands. It is recommended that students only enroll in courses that they intend to complete to avoid a bill from withdrawing. We have created a video that explains several scenarios and which result in a bill: Effects of Dropping Summer Courses Video

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • If you remain in one course that covers the full summer session you would not be considered withdrawn.
  • If you are enrolled in first and second summer session courses, but decide not to attend second session, it is often beneficial to drop your second session courses before first summer session ends.
  • Due to the complexity of dropping courses and financial aid it is wise to consult the Office of Financial Aid before dropping courses.

Scholarship Checks

If you receive a scholarship check, or an organization plans to send a scholarship check to MSU on your behalf, please send it to the Office of Financial Aid. Our address is listed at the bottom of this newsletter. Please be sure that if the check is copayable to Michigan State and the student that it is endorsed on the back of the check so that it can be deposited and applied to the student's MSU account. Once the check is processed it will appear as a part of the student's financial aid in StuInfo under the "View Your Aid" tab in the Financial Aid (Check Your Aid) section.

Tuition payments should be mailed to the address indicated on the MSU bill along with a payment coupon or delivered in-person to the Cashier's Office in Room 110 Hannah Administration Building.
