where can I find scholarships

Michigan State University has three main sources for grants and scholarships. The first source is the Office of Admissions. They award merit based grants and scholarships to students who are new to MSU, determined by the information provided on the admissions application.

The second source is the Office of Financial Aid. We award grants and scholarships based on financial need which is determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The third source are individual departments. Many colleges and departments within Michigan State University offer scholarship opportunities. They may offer these via an online application, paper applications, and awards are based on academic achievement. Usually these are targeted to students in the colleges' majors.

Scholarships can be found online, from organizations in your local community, or many other resources. It takes some work, but remember that if you spent 10 hours applying for scholarships and receive just one for $1000, you just made $100 an hour.

While searching for scholarships watch out for scams. We do not recommend applying for scholarships if they ask for your credit card information to apply or for a fee.
